The salamander heater is a top choice for heating space quickly and efficiently. These powerful heaters can be used in various settings, from construction sites and warehouses to garages and workshops.

This blog post will take a closer look at what a salamander heater is, how it works, and some of its key benefits.

What is a Salamander Heater?

A salamander heater is a portable electric heater designed to heat an ample space quickly. It gets its name from the shape of its heating element, which is long and narrow, resembling the body of a salamander. These heaters typically have a fan that helps to distribute the heat evenly throughout the space.

How Does a Salamander Heater Work?

A salamander heater uses an electric heating element to generate heat. The heating element is typically made of metal and is heated by electricity. The fan blows air across the heating element, which heats the surrounding air. This heated air is circulated throughout the space, raising the overall temperature.

The heat generated by a salamander heater can be adjusted using a thermostat or a control knob, allowing you to set the desired temperature for your space. Some models come with a timer, allowing you to select the heater to turn on and off at specific times.

Benefits of Using a Salamander Heater

There are several benefits to using a salamander heater, including:

  • Quick heating: One of the most significant advantages of a salamander heater is its ability to heat an ample space quickly. That makes it an excellent choice for construction sites, warehouses, and other large indoor areas where rapid heating is needed.

When it comes to heating large commercial or industrial spaces, indirect-fired heaters are a smart choice for maintaining consistent and controlled temperatures. But what exactly are indirect-fired heaters, and how do they differ from direct-fired heaters?

This blog post will discuss indirect-fired heaters’ key features and benefits and explain why they’re the preferred choice for many businesses and facilities.

First, let’s define direct and indirect-fired heaters.

Direct-fired heaters burn fuel directly in the heating chamber, which heats the air circulated throughout the space.

On the other hand, indirect-fired heaters use a heat exchanger to transfer heat from the combustion process to the air circulated throughout the space. That means that the heated air never comes into contact with the combustion process, making indirect-fired heaters a safer and more efficient option.

One of the most significant advantages of indirect-fired heaters is their ability to provide consistent and controlled temperatures. Because the heat exchanger separates the combustion process from the heated air, the temperature can be easily regulated and maintained consistently.

This is especially important in large commercial or industrial spaces, where maintaining a consistent temperature is crucial for employee comfort and productivity.

High efficiency

Another benefit of indirect-fired heaters is theirhigh efficiency. Because the heat exchanger separates the combustion process from the heated air, the heat energy can be used more effectively and with less waste. This means that indirectly fired heaters use less fuel to heat the same amount of space, resulting in significant energy savings over time.

Durable

In addition to their energy efficiency, indirect-fired heaters are also known for their durability and long lifespan. The heat exchanger is typically made from durable materials such as stainless steel, which can withstand the high temperatures and pressures of the combustion process. This means that indirect-fired heaters require less maintenance and repairs and can last many years with proper care and maintenance.

Provide clean & safe heat

Another benefit of indirect-fired heaters is their ability to provide clean, safe heat. There is no risk of carbon monoxide or other harmful gases entering space. This makes indirect-fired heaters a safer option for commercial and industrial spaces, especially those where people spend extended periods.

Versatile

Indirect-fired heaters are also versatile and can be used in various settings. They are commonly used in large commercial and industrial spaces such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers. They are also used in outdoor settings such as construction sites and agricultural facilities.

Increased Flexibility

Because the combustion process is separate from the air or fluid being heated, indirect-fired heaters can be designed to heat various fluids, including air, water, and thermally conductive fluids. Additionally, indirect-fired heaters can be designed to heat various industrial processes, including space heating, process heating, and drying.

Low Maintenance

Indirect-fired heaters also require less maintenance than direct-fired heaters. There is less wear and tear on the heat exchanger. Additionally, the design of indirect-fired heaters allows for using a heat exchanger specifically designed for the fluid being heated, which can further decrease maintenance.

Cost Effective

Lastly, Indirect fired heaters are cost-effective in the long run. The heat exchanger is a vital component of the indirect-fired heater, which can be replaced at a lower cost than replacing the entire unit. Additionally, indirect-fired heaters are more energy-efficient, which can result in significant cost savings over time.

swamp coolers fimg
Uncategorized

You’ve probably heard of swamp coolers. Swamp coolers are a type of air conditioner that consists of a fan and an evaporative cooler, which is basically a box with holes that uses water to cool places.

The water then runs through the box and evaporates as it cools down to provide you with cold air. This is a fairly simple explanation, but there are many other aspects to this product that people don’t know about.

These include: why they are good for your home, what to look for when buying them, and how much they will cost you. Here are some things you need to know about swamp coolers

What Is a Swamp Cooler?

There are two main types of swamp coolers: open and closed. An open swamp cooler is completely exposed and is just a fan with a hole for cooling the air.

A closed swamp cooler uses a semi-invisible mechanism to prevent dust and dirt from getting in. If you don’t have access to a compressor unit to force the air from the cooler to your home, then you’ll probably want to use a closed cooler for your home.

The only catch is that the unit has to be powerful enough to cool the air that goes through it and that’s the main point of why you don’t want an open one.

Swamp Cooler Advantages

Swamp coolers are very efficient and provide many of the same benefits as an air conditioner. They cool a room quickly, and they work especially well in humid environments.

The real benefit of swamp coolers is that they do not rely primarily on electricity, but they do use enough electrical current to run their fans.

This means you can use them in any environment. However, like all air conditioners, swamp coolers will be more efficient in a cold climate, since they have to work harder to cool down a room with a lower amount of humidity.

The Downsides to Using a Swamp Cooler

What are the downsides to using a swamp cooler? First of all, if you have swamp cooler issues like the compressor kicking in when you don’t need it, then you have a problem.

However, you should note that this is relatively uncommon. Even if you do experience an issue with the compressor kicking in, you should not have to return the unit, as it is rarely more than a one-time issue.

What should you do if you are experiencing a problem with your swamp cooler? First, check your owner’s manual, and make sure that you check all of the various important areas on the device. Make sure that the heat pump is functioning and that the compressor fan is not plugged in.

The Average Cost of a Swamp Cooler

Every swamp cooler is different because there is no set rule about how much each one should cost. However, most of them range between $600 and $1,000.

Some swamp coolers will only cost you $500 to $600, while others will cost you more. The $1,000 swamp cooler is usually found in the homes of wealthy people, especially in the tropics. Keep in mind that you should never spend more than you are willing to pay for a swamp cooler.

For example, if you spend $300 for a good swamp cooler, you should only be spending $300. There is no way a swamp cooler that is over $500 can provide you with air conditioning. If the cost is more than you are willing to pay, then that is when you should probably look at purchasing an air conditioner.

Buying a Small Swamp Cooler for Home Use

Before we get into the details, there is something you need to know about the swamp coolers that are widely available. They are not cheap. There are several small swamp coolers that are around the $100 range, but most are much more expensive, and up to several hundred dollars.

There is one product that is perhaps the most expensive in the world: the Koch Aquarium Silent Cooling Fan, which is a “living water” cooling unit that costs over $4,000. If you want to try to save some money, you can check out some other products that use an air-duct system for cooling.

These can be cheaper than the above-mentioned ones, although there is a chance they will run hot because of them. Still, you can’t go wrong if you are looking to save a couple hundred dollars.

Renting a swamp cooler is always better than buying one straight out.

Buying a Large Capacity Swamp Cooler for Commercial Use

A swamp cooler is a fairly common product, used by offices and commercial establishments, for cooling off their equipment and machinery. This is a great way of saving money and providing employees with a pleasant environment.

There are some questions you should ask yourself when looking for the best swamp cooler for your needs:

Do you have a small business or an office that generates a lot of heat?

If your business gets really warm, such as a data center, then you might want to consider swamp coolers large enough for commercial businesses.

Investing in a more powerful swamp cooler will help cool down your entire office and save money at the same time.

Again, renting enough swamp coolers for your large business is always better. It saves time, money and your ROI is many times higher.

Conclusion

Swamp coolers are an option for anyone looking to cool their home. There are many benefits to using these, and they are reliable and affordable in the long run.

Renting a swamp cooler gives you the freedom to choose what is best for your home and family.

In this article, we’ve discussed a number of swamp coolers, as well as some things you need to know about them. Hopefully, this information has helped you to decide whether a swamp cooler is a good choice for you. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at Preferred Climate Solutions.

Although Texas is known for its hot weather, it can get mighty chilly during the winter months. As the temperature drops, you need to find a heating solution for your business or worksite. Fortunately, with an indirect fired heater from Preferred Climate Solutions, you can get the heat you need without any hassle.

Because indirect fired heaters provide so much warmth and offer so many benefits, we want to break down what you can expect from this kind of machine. Here’s what you need to know.

Indirect vs. Direct Fired Heaters – What’s the Difference?

As you can probably guess from the name, the type of heating that these machines do is based on whether the air comes into contact with an open flame. Direct fired heaters will ignite the air passing through it, providing fast and efficient heat to your space.

Indirect fired heaters, however, work similarly to a residential furnace. The fuel and fire are contained within, but the heat goes to a stainless steel exchange element. As the element heats up, fans will blow the ambient air out. This means that the air coming from the heater is clean, with no combustible materials.

The Advantages of an Indirect Fired Heater

There are many different reasons why you would want this kind of unit in your commercial workspace. Here are our top benefits.

  • Fresh, Clean Air – you don’t have to worry about breathing in toxic elements such as carbon monoxide or gas. Because of this, you can place these heaters in a wider variety of spaces, even those without significant ventilation.
  • Maximum Recirculation – one of the best ways to save money on a heater is to keep the air recirculating inside. With an indirect fired heater, you can do that because there are no harmful byproducts produced by the heating element.
  • Precise Thermostat Control – like your home’s furnace, you can set the ambient temperature accurately without worrying about the space getting too hot or cold. Also, thanks to the recirculation, the air maintains a comfortable temperature the whole time.

The Disadvantages of an Indirect Fired Heater

While there are many reasons to get one of these models for your business, they aren’t ideal for all situations. Keep these factors in mind when picking out the best heater for your needs.

  • Less Fuel Efficient – since the flame isn’t touching open air, about 20 percent of the heat is lost in the transfer. While recirculation can help recoup some of this, these heaters are not as efficient as direct-fired models. Still, 80-percent heating is excellent for most situations.
  • Ventilation Ducts Required – although you can place these heaters in tight quarters, you still have to ventilate the combustible part. Running ducts outside can be tricky in some places, and it can make it more challenging to install and run a heater overall.
  • Higher Rental Cost – these models are much more complicated than direct-fired units, so you will have to pay more for a rental. Also, because of the ductwork involved, that can inflate the price as well. At Preferred Climate Solutions, we’ll work with you to minimize the expense as much as possible without diminishing your heat source.
  • Substantial Electrical Requirements – if your event or worksite is outdoors, you will need to have a generator to run this machine. Unlike direct-fired heaters that can use propane or other fuel, these models do require electricity to operate.

When to Use an Indirect Fired Heater

Now that you understand the pros and cons of this machine, let’s take a look at some of the instances where it can come in handy. At Preferred Climate Solutions, we also offer emergency heater rentals for when you need heat immediately.

  • Enclosed Office Spaces – if your central heating unit goes down, you don’t want your workers to be uncomfortable. These heaters are perfect for offices because they can produce constant ambient temperature. Also, electricity is easier to come by in an office building than outdoors.
  • Low-Humidity Environments – one of the issues with direct-fired heaters (and other models) is that they can either dry the air out too much, or they can add moisture as a byproduct. If your worksite needs to maintain a specific humidity balance, an indirect fired heater is your best choice.
  • Healthcare Clinics – because the air circulated by these models is clean, healthcare professionals don’t have to worry about aggravating patients in potentially delicate situations.
  • Retail Spaces – commercial shops can benefit from indirect fired heaters because they provide maximum comfort for both employees and patrons. Not only that, but you don’t have to worry about damaging products because of excessively dry air. For example, a hair salon would be a perfect place for this kind of heating.

Get Fast and Easy Installation With Preferred Climate Solutions

As we mentioned, one potential drawback of indirect fired heaters is that they are challenging to install. Fortunately, that’s not a problem for us. We will survey your space and provide the lowest-impact solution so that you don’t have to worry about disrupting your work area.

Our ducts can reach up to 150 feet, so no matter your situation, we can customize installation as needed. Also, since we provide emergency heater rentals, you don’t have to freeze for too long. Give us a call, and we’ll be out there as soon as possible.

We also offer multiple heating solutions, so if indirect fired heaters are not the ideal choice, we can still give you warmth and comfort. Call us today to find out more and see how we can benefit your business.

It never fails. You have a crucial manufacturing order to get out the door. It’s the middle of the Texas summer, and temperatures are above 100 degrees. Naturally, this is the time your industrial air conditioner unit chose to just fizzle out. It will take three days to fix, and the company doesn’t do repairs on weekends. You need 24/7 operations to keep your business going. You can’t close down your shop. You have to keep everyone working on the line. What do you do?

How Portable Air Conditioners Can Help

In this situation, a portable air conditioner can be a lifesaver. Spot Coolers are portable air conditioners that deliver a jet of cold air where you need it the most. A spot cooler is a type of portable air conditioner designed to cool a hot spot in a factory, hospital or any industrial or commercial space. For example, we set up spot coolers quite frequently in computer data centers to cool server racks, or in hospitals to keep patients comfortable and medical equipment cool.

Many factories use these coolers to ensure that workspaces or equipment does not overheat. We even install them in commercial buildings during our hot Texas summer months when building A/C is too strained and is just not doing the job. During the summers, as you might imagine, we install quite a few of these units in emergency situations when the building’s primary air conditioner fails or must undergo maintenance. We all know how quickly a building can heat up in this brutal Texas sun when there’s no working A/C.

As a business, you avoid the cost of cooling an entire building or even an entire room. Our rental rates are very affordable, and we often find that one spot cooler can do the job. We can recommend the right unit for you so that you get efficient and cost-effective cooling for your industrial or commercial application. The units can provide temporary or permanent cooling, so you can shut it off when you don’t need it running.

In a recent U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) study, they found that about 40 percent of energy costs for an average-sized commercial building is spent on cooling and heating. In fact, cooling and heating can amount to about eight percent or higher of your total overall building costs. One way to reduce these costs is to only cool the space you need to cool. Becoming more energy-efficient can save businesses 22 to 56 percent in costs, depending on factors like building size, building use, regional climate, and local utility costs. As a building owner, imagine what you could do with these types of costs savings.

Sometimes, the cost of cooling a particular area with sensitive, expensive equipment pales in comparison to the replacement cost of that equipment. Some businesses have spot coolers during emergencies. The cost of the spot cooler is minimal compared to the cost of completely shutting down your operations for an A/C repair or replacement.

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), as well as lighting, are certainly essential for a productive business, so it is no surprise that these are the two highest energy costs for commercial buildings like warehouses, hospitals, retail stores, and similar structures. Did you know that these commercial spaces consume nearly 20 percent of the energy in the United States?

As a business owner, you want to do everything you can to reduce your energy costs. The amount of energy you use depends on the time of day you use it, the climate and the types of equipment and lighting you have. Your building’s age, windows, and insulation are also factors. Your utility plan is also a factor, and usually includes both demand (capacity) and consumption charges. If you’re lucky, your utility provider will let you choose which tariff plan you are on – either demand or consumption – and will often provide you a rate comparison. Switching tariffs could save you a surprising amount of money.

Spot coolers can save you money as well. These spot cooler units reduce the need to cool the whole building and can cool spaces ranging from 200 square feet up to 2,100 square feet. These spot coolers work just like the air conditioner in your home by using a chilled refrigerant to cool air as it runs over coils. Spot coolers also remove moisture from the air as it cools. All of our spot coolers have easy-to-use digital controls.

Evaporative Cooling

If you have a very large indoor space, evaporative cooling is sometimes a good option compared to or in addition to air conditioning. Evaporative coolers reduce temperatures by evaporating liquid and adding it to space. In general, these coolers are used to keep facilities about 20 degrees cooler than outside temperatures. On the other hand, an air conditioner removes both heat and moisture from the space, therefore cooling and dehumidifying the room to a set temperature that will be maintained.

Evaporative coolers are more economical than air conditioning, and also tend to be more energy-efficient. An air conditioning system can cost up to five times more than an evaporative cooling system. The evaporative coolers are inexpensive to install and require minimal maintenance. They are mainly used in hot, dry climates, so depending on where you are in Texas, this might be a good cooling option for you.

At Preferred Climate Solutions, we will help you choose the system that best suits your needs. We rent units ranging from 10,000 – 83,000 BTU, and we offer on-site delivery, setup, and pick up when you no longer need the unit. There are two different types of commercial spot coolers to consider: Air cooled and water cooled. Water cool units require water to help cool warm air, while air-cooled units convert warm air into cool air with an icy cold coil. Here are the pros and cons for each air cooled and water cooled spot coolers.

Air Cooled – Pros

These spot coolers do not require a water hookup like their water-cooled counterparts, so these are more common among spot cooler owners. This means you require fewer resources in order to get them up and running.

These spot coolers have a much higher limit in cooling power compared to water coolers. You can get an air-cooled sport cooler that goes up to 120,000 BTU, whereas the most powerful water-cooled spot cooler can only go up to half of that.

Most air-cooled spot coolers are considered to be portable. They have a set of wheels so that you can move it from one room to another if need be. You will, however, need to consider disassembling and reassembling ventilation of the moisture that it captures.

Air Cooled – Cons

For air-cooled units, you need the moisture to be properly ventilated so that the warm moisture has the means to escape your room. If you have a window or ceiling tile, you have a great way of doing this, but setting it up has to be done so that the warmth doesn’t enter or re-enter the room.

Additionally, there is no way to enhance an air-cooled spot cooler with a chiller system, such as with a water-cooled spot cooler. The max BTU your cooler comes with cannot go any higher by any means necessary.

Water Cooled – Pros

Water cooled spot coolers tend to be more energy efficient, meaning they will use less power and cost less money to run than air-cooled spot coolers.

These types of spot coolers are self-contained, so they do not require any setups with ducting systems. They just simply make the warm air cold thanks to adding colder moisture. This is great if you don’t want to have to deal with opening windows or worrying about that warm air coming back into the room.

The performance of a water-cooled spot cooler can be enhanced if you also have a chiller system. This can help make your spot cooler run colder, thus further making it more energy efficient and produce cooler air.

Water Cooled – Cons

While they can help to save on your electrical bill, they could raise your water bill. Because you constantly need water to keep this spot cooler going, you will need to continually use water for the spot cooler’s water supply.

Also, water-cooled spot coolers tend to be heavier, occupy more space and become more immobile, thanks to the added need for water supply. These are only good spot coolers if you have just one and only room that you have to cool.

Spot coolers are amazing appliances to help you stay cool inside of a garage, workshop, basement, or tented area outdoors. But the lines still might be unclear when it comes to whether or not you might need a commercial spot cooler or a personal spot cooler, because not all living and working conditions are similar to one another. Here are some things to consider when contemplating personal and commercial spot coolers.

Usage

What you need the spot cooler for should better clarify which kind of spot cooler you need. For personal spot coolers, you can use it to cool a bedroom, a sunroom or simply when you want to save money by not running an air conditioner in the home. Commercial spot coolers are ideal for cooling an office, a server room, for stores and restaurants and for garages for mechanics and other auto specialists.

Power

Personal spot coolers run on 115-volt power, which is what you get from your average outlet. You basically just plug it in and turn it on with no additional steps to take. For commercial spot coolers, they typically come with greater power than personal coolers, but a dedicated circuit with a proper receptacle is necessary, so it needs a more complex power source in order to run aside from just plugging it into an outlet. You might need to have an electrician help you install a commercial spot cooler.

Exhaust

That moisture has to go somewhere, of course. For many commercial spot coolers, this moisture can travel through a hose and out of your window. For personal spot coolers, this moisture goes inside of a tank that you would need to empty from time to time, and depending on the size of the cooler, the tank also has a limit to how much water it can hold. Some commercial spot coolers, however, offer both forms of the exhaust. The hose is more ideal for people that do not want to worry about emptying the tank again and again.

Durability

Commercial spot coolers tend to last a very long time due to what they are made of Insulated metal and reinforced ABS plastic. Drain pads are even made of stainless steel so that moisture doesn’t wear them out over time. For personal spot coolers, these are made of more affordable plastic. They will not last as long as commercial spot coolers, so in order to get the most out of them, ongoing care and maintenance are strongly recommended.

Price

Due to the power, performance, and durability of a commercial spot cooler, these tend to cost much more money. Personal spot coolers are more affordable, in comparison, due to using simpler components and more affordable materials. It might make sense for some owners to choose personal spot coolers to save money, but then again, the performance of commercial spot coolers can make it well worth the investment.

Spot coolers are great to have for many different occasions, from outdoor events to business conferences that last a whole weekend. These coolers can even be useful in the event of a power outage or another emergency situation.

When it comes to spotting coolers, you can choose between owning one forever or borrowing one for a limited time. We often get asked about which is better, and the answer to this question isn’t quite clear, as either one seems like a better plan over the over, depending on the situation. So we have compiled four things to consider when choosing a spot cooler to either rent to buy.

How Long Are You Planning To Use The Cooler?

This should be the easiest question for potential spot cooler owners to answer. Many consumers want a spot cooler that they can use for the years ahead. It wouldn’t make sense for these people to sporadically rent out a spot cooler if they need to rely on one for the long term, so if you see yourself needing a spot cooler for more than one occasion, buy it and make it yours. If you only see yourself needing the spot cooler just for one occasion in the near future, rent it and save some money. If you aren’t sure how long you might need the cooler for, continue to read on for other points to consider.

Do You Need The Cooler Unexpectedly?

You might need to get a spot cooler due to an emergency, but it might be unclear for how long you need it for, or if you need it again following the emergency. In most emergencies, consumers tend to rent spot coolers until they no longer need them. However, if you tend to get power outages in your neighborhood more than seldom, buying a spot cooler can be a good idea too, so that you can use it in case of other emergencies in the future. If you understand how often you encounter blackouts in your area, you should be certain about whether or not to buy or rent a spot cooler.

Do You Expect Changes With Cooling In The Future?

If you see yourself needing a cooler for a long period of time, and don’t see that changing any time soon, then you should consider buying the spot cooler. If you are undergoing changes for your home or business, and you momentarily won’t have other means of cooling at hand, then you should definitely rent a cooler.

This also applies to seasonal changes, as well. If you live in a warm area and don’t get cooling in a certain room of the home, such as the bedroom or basement, it would be better to buy a spot cooler over renting it. Even though it might only get hot and humid for a few months during the year, you will always need to use it again next year and the years after that.
